Gulveer Singh completes medal hat-trick at Asian Games; secures bronze in 5000 m

Gulveer Singh keeps running towards medals. Well, it really has. An Indian athlete added a third medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya when he won bronze in the men’s 5000m on Tuesday.The Indian long-distance runner had earlier won silver medals in the men’s 1500m and 10,000m events.With his latest bronze in the 5000m, Gulveer now has three medals from three athletics events at the ongoing Asian Games.Gulveer thus became the second Indian and the fourth from the country to win three medals in athletics events in a single edition of the Continental Games. Before Gulveer, Lava Pinto (New Delhi 1951, 3 medals), PT Usha (Seoul, 1986, 4 medals) and KM Beenamol (Busan 2002, 3 medals) achieved similar feat.Gulveer clocked 13:32.75 to secure third place. While Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew won the gold medal in 13:30.79, Japan’s Tomonori Yamaguchi took the silver in 13:31.43.
