Election Commission row: Thackeray’s cousins to lead MNS-Sena (UBT) protest march on October 4

Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Shiv Sena (UBT) will hold a joint protest march against the Election Commission of India (ECI) on October 4. The announcement comes amid an ongoing tussle over Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar voicing dissent as part of the poll panel.
The march will start from Mumbai’s Byculla area to the BMC headquarters at CSMT, MNS chief Raj Thackeray said on Tuesday (September 29, 2026), adding that the further course of the protest would be decided after October 4. The distance between Byculla and BMC is around 5 km.

Days after Mr. Raj Thackeray first called for demonstrations against the ECI, Thackeray’s cousins on Tuesday (September 29, 2026) appealed to citizens to join the cause and raise their voice against the CEC, which has been accused of rigging elections in the name of SIR.
Mr. Uddhav Thackeray pointed out that the opposition and pressure groups are demonstrating and highlighting the irregularities in their own way. “Congress protested on September 29, Cockroach Janta Party is on October 2 and we will do on October 4. We will meet if needed,” he said.
Talking to media persons in Dadar region, Mr. Raj Thackeray reiterated that they have continuously raised concerns regarding Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and the functioning of Election Commission but it remained unresolved.
Mr. Raj Thackeray also invited all parties to join this protest march and also supported Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’ protest on October 2, demanding resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
However, the Mumbai Police denied permission to the CJP for the proposed October 2 protest at Dadar’s Shivaji Park against Mr. Kumar.
