Keltron begins integration of sonar systems for the Jalkapi project

Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (Keltron) has started integrating the bow-array and side-array sonar systems developed for the indigenously manufactured Jalkapi underwater vessel system.

Industry, Commerce, IT and AI Minister PK Kunhalikutty launched the integration phase at Keltron Electro Ceramics Limited (KECL), Kuttippuram on Monday (September 28, 2026) as part of the first 100-day action program of the United Democratic Front (UDF) government.

The Minister said that Keltron is an institution Keralam can be proud of and its ability to manufacture products using advanced technology is a matter of pride. He assured that the government would extend full support to Keltron’s development initiatives.

Keltron has completed the production of sonar systems. The electronic modules for the Jalkapi project were developed at Keltron Controls in Aroor, while the sensors were developed at its Malappuram unit.

Commodore Amit Ray, Deputy Director General, Submarine Design, represented the Indian Navy at the event and provided details of the project.

Keltron Equipment Complex (KEC), Karakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, has been awarded the contract to manufacture power electronics products for Units 5 and 6 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant.

Keltron received the contract from Subhashish Roy, Managing Director of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL). It is Keltron’s first direct order from NPCIL.

BPT executive chairman K. Ajith Kumar, Malappuram district panchayat member Vaseema Velery, block panchayat member M. Soumya, employee union representatives and Keltron employees attended the event.

Keltron CEO Sreekumar Nair welcomed the gathering. KECL Executive Director Jacob Tharakan proposed the vote of thanks.
