Police educate SVMC students on women safety and cyber crime under Operation Trishul
First year students of Sri Venkateswara Medical College (SVMC) were sensitized on women safety, cyber crime, substance abuse and other emerging threats as part of Operation Trishul.
The awareness program conducted by Team Shakti on Monday focused on teasing, extortion, crimes against women, POCSO Act and other criminal laws. Additional Superintendent of Police M. Srilatha participated in the program and urged the students to remain vigilant about their safety and the safety of others.
The police personnel explained the functioning of the Shakti app and urged the students to seek police help immediately in case of emergency. They also warned them about cybercrime including digital arrests, OTP scams, suspicious links, unsolicited video calls, loan apps and honey traps.
Students were warned of the adverse consequences of irresponsible use of mobile phones and social media, apart from the dangers of online gambling and drug abuse. They were also advised to strictly follow road safety regulations and behave responsibly.
In light of recent incidents of crimes against women, officials have stressed the need to be cautious while using social media. Students have been advised not to share personal information, photos, one-time passwords or bank details with strangers.
In his message, SP L. Subbarayudu urged the youth to shun drugs, online gambling, cyber fraud and other harmful influences and focus on their education and future goals. He urged them to raise awareness of the law, become responsible citizens and report incidents of harassment, crime or cyber fraud rather than remaining silent.
Police officials urged students to use 112 and other emergency numbers if necessary. They said awareness programs are being conducted across the district under Operation Trishul to strengthen crime prevention, increase safety of women and students, improve vigilance against cyber crime and fight against drug abuse.
