Sreeshankar, Solomon reach long jump final as Tejaswin slips to third in decathlon

India’s Murali Sreeshankar (PTI Photo) Nagoya: Murali Sreeshankar and David Patturaj Solomon advanced to the men’s long jump final at the ongoing Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Sunday, giving India double representation in the medal competition.Sreeshankar finished second in Group B with a best of 7.84m. Meanwhile, Solomon secured third place in Group A after recording a best jump of 7.62m.Asian Games full coverage | Schedule | Medal totalIndia also saw two athletes advance from the women’s 400m hurdles, with Vithya Ramraj and Anu Raghavan finishing second in their respective heats.Vithya clocked a season’s best of 55.73 seconds while Anu clocked a personal best of 55.84 seconds to book a spot in the final.

Tejaswin slipped to third place

Tejaswin Shankar dropped from first to third in the decathlon after throwing the discus on Sunday.He entered the discus as the leader after finishing third in the heats of the 110m hurdles in 14.33 seconds, which earned him 932 points. With 5,270 points, he led the overall standings and appeared to be going for the gold.However, Tejaswin finished third in the discus with a best throw of 36.77m, four meters behind his best throw. His total moved to 5,869 points to remain third, with athletes from China and Japan occupying the top two positions.The last two disciplines of the decathlon, the pole vault and the javelin throw, are not exactly Tejaswin’s strong suit.

Several exits in Kurash

India endured a tough day in Kurash, with several athletes dropping out early.Vishal crashed out in the Men’s Over 90kg quarter-finals after losing 0-5 to Thailand’s Kunathip Yea-On.Sangita Balhara lost 10-0 to Charmea Quelino of the Philippines in her round of 32 match. Bharti then lost 3-0 to Iran’s Tahereh Azarpeivand in the round of 16, while Yash Kumar suffered a 10-0 defeat to Shakarmamad Mirmamadov of Tajikistan.

Manju sixth, Priyanka disqualified

India’s Manju Rani finished sixth in the women’s marathon walk in 3:40:17.Meanwhile, Priyanka Goswami was disqualified after the 9 km mark.
