Vinod Kambli struggles to speak fluently in the latest video from a senior care center

Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli struggled to speak fluently in the latest video from the elderly care center in Thane where the 54-year-old is currently undergoing treatment. However, Kambli offered a reassuring message to his fans and praised the center for its facilities and care.

The 54-year-old is currently staying at the Nidan Center for Elderly Care, where he spoke about the treatment and care he is receiving. Kambli appreciated the facilities at the center and expressed gratitude to the medical team and support staff.

“I am currently undergoing treatment. I would like to mention that the facilities here are excellent. When I stay here, I never feel like I am far from home. I get a lot of love and respect from the people here,” Kambli said in the video.

This is followed by a message from a former batsman years of health struggles which kept him increasingly in the public eye. A video of Kambli struggling to walk in August 2024 raised concerns among fans. At the time, there was speculation about his condition, although his health problems had been documented for several years. Kambli suffered a heart attack in 2013 and subsequently underwent angioplasty for blockage in his arteries.

His health continued to deteriorate towards the end of 2024. In December of that year, Kambli was admitted to a hospital in Thane after complaining of a urinary tract infection, convulsions, dizziness and fever. Doctors found electrolyte imbalances, including low sodium and potassium, which contributed to his muscle spasms and mobility problems. Further tests also revealed clots in his brain, which doctors said were related to an earlier stroke.

Kambli spent about two weeks in the hospital before being discharged on 1 January 2025. He walked out of the hospital with an assist, holding a cricket bat and thanking his supporters for their support.

Earlier this year Kambli celebrated Sachin Tendulkar’s 53rd birthday returning to Shivaji Park where their cricketing journeys began under coach Ramakant Achrekar. He later spent time with the young cricketers at Shivaji Park and shared ice cream with them and reminisced about the memories they made together during their early days.

The health concerns have been particularly difficult for those who remember Kambli as one of India’s most gifted young batsmen. He emerged from the Mumbai cricket system under coach Ramakant Achrekar alongside Sachin Tendulkar and made his India debut in 1991.

Kambli played 17 Tests and 104 ODIs for India between 1991 and 2000. He scored 1,084 runs in Tests at an average of 54.20, including four centuries, while amassing 2,477 runs in ODIs.

However, his latest video carries a message of reassurance rather than despair. Kambli spoke positively about the care he was receiving and emphasized that the support at the center helped him feel at home.

“I get a lot of love and respect from the people here,” he said.
