HDK asks ECI to reveal the facts

JD(S) leader and Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Saturday urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to clarify reports of differences between the three in leadership and present the facts to the public to protect the credibility of the institution.

Responding to a question on Congress protests, he alleged that Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar had unilaterally taken several decisions despite the objections of the other two election commissioners. The JD(S) is an ally of the NDA.

“My challenge to the Election Commission is: What is the reason for these differences? What is the truth behind the development? They should tell the people of the country what the facts are,” the Union minister said, stressing that the point is not to emphasize protests organized by political parties, but to understand why such an atmosphere has arisen.

“The Election Commission should present the facts to the people and protect the dignity of the institution,” Mr. Kumaraswamy said.

According to him, the ECI is a responsible constitutional institution which has played an important role in sustaining democracy in the country for the last 78 years.
