“Burn down the government.” offices and broken dormitories’: BRS leader Balk Suman’s video goes viral

Hyderabad

BRS leader and former MLA Balka Suman made several controversial and provocative remarks and called for “militant” activities, including “burning of government offices and demolition of railway tracks” to gain people’s attention for their activities.

In a video that went viral, Mr. Suman was seen provoking BRS cadres to burn offices. “Even if you go to jail for a month, it doesn’t matter,” he was heard on video as he addressed the cadre, apparently in the Chennur constituency he represented from 2018 to 2023.

Mr Suman was seen as “unhappy” that farmers did not turn up at the BRS protests due to procurement issues. It was heard that “barely five farmers” took part in the protests, while the rest were BRS cadres. Similar was the case with another protest, he said. He suggested that it was high time BRS started militant activities without waiting for people to join.

Congress leaders termed it as nothing but a militant move to destabilize and topple the democratically elected Congress government. “This is not legitimate opposition politics. It is a direct call to abandon peaceful democratic protest in favor of militant confrontation, damaging public property, disrupting law and order and endangering innocent lives,” they said.

The call to burn government offices crosses every line of responsible politics, Congress leaders said, questioning the silence of the BRS leadership. By not condemning Mr. Suman’s militant appeals, the BRS leaders, including KCR and KTR, appeared to have given their tacit approval or consent, they alleged.
