In FY26, August was particularly weak in terms of sales, stemming from caution over the expected changes in GST rates that came into effect in September. Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti, Hyundai and Bajaj Auto saw year-on-year declines in the month for the period. In August this year, however, the comparison was markedly different: Tata Motors’ sales rose 59.2% over the previous year, while Mahindra & Mahindra and Maruti saw increases of 40.4% and 34.3%, respectively.
