Study material on the life, writings and social contributions of Narayan Guru will be incorporated in school and college textbooks, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Madhu Bangarappa said here on Saturday.

Paying tributes to Narayana Guru on the occasion of his Jayanthi celebrations in Mysuru on Saturday, Mr. Bangarappa said it was the collective responsibility of society to take the contributions of a great personality who propagated human values ​​to future generations.

Mr. Bangarappa said Sri Narayana Guru was a spiritual leader and social reformer who realized that education was essential for people to live with dignity and respect.

Kerala-born Narayana Guru gave the revolutionary message of “Make the schools bigger and the pomp of the temples smaller”, he said, adding that he also tried to convey to the world that education that creates awareness is better than blind faith and superstition.

Chamaraja Assembly Constituency MLA K. Harish Gowda said that Narayana Guru worked to remove discrimination, untouchability and superstition from society and sought to build an egalitarian society based on the principle of “One Caste, One Religion, One God”.

Along with building temples, Narayana Guru’s main aim was to build schools and give top priority to the acquisition of knowledge, Mr. Gowda said.
