The PD Act was invoked against a woman for dealing in belts in Borabanda

Boraband police on Saturday executed orders under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against a 45-year-old woman accused of repeatedly illegally selling liquor through a strip shop in the area.

The accused, Vemula Sarala, a resident of Banjara Nagar in Borabanda, was allegedly running a belt business for the past few years and was involved in several cases related to the sale of unauthorized liquor, police said.

The PD orders were carried out under the Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act on orders issued by Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar.

Police have also warned those operating strip shops or selling alcohol without a valid license in Borabanda to desist from such activities. Cases would be registered under the Telangana Excise Act, while habitual offenders could face prosecution under the PD Act, police said.

Those who provide premises or shelter for strip shops could also be named as accused. Police have asked residents to report the illegal sale of liquor through the 112 number, ensuring the confidentiality of informants.
