Three states in India – Kerala, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu – achieved the objectives of the UN Sustainable Development (SDG) to the Mother or MMR mortality rate (<= 70 until 2030); Mortality rate up to five years or U5MR (<= 25 until 2030); and the level of mortality of newborns or NMR (<= 12 until 2030), according to a report on the sample registration 2021 published by the Secretary General of India at the beginning of this week.

Twelve countries/trade union areas have already achieved the goal of the U5MR SDG – Kerala (eight), Delhi (14), Tamil Nadu (14), Jammu & Kashmir (16), Maharashtra (16), West Bengal (20), Karnataka (21), Punjab (22), Himhachal Pradesh (23), Himhachal (23), Himhachal (23), Himhachal Pradesh (23), Himhachal Pradesh (23), Himhachal Pradesh (23) (23), Himhachal Pradesh (23) (23), Himhachal Pradesh (22) (22), Himhachal Pradesh (24) and Gujarat (24).

Six states/trade union areas have already achieved the target of NMR SDG – Kerala (four), Delhi (eight), Tamil Nadu (nine), Maharashtra (11), Jammu & Kashmir (12) and Himachal Pradesh (12).

Special Bulletin about the MMR in India in 2019-21, based on the data from the sample registration system, found that the Indian MMR has shown a significant reduction, decreasing by 37 points from 130 to live births in 2014–16 to 93 in 2019-21.
There is also a declining trend of children’s mortality indicators.
The infant mortality rate (IMR) in India fell from 39 to 1,000 live births to 27 per 1,000 live births in 2021. NMR fell from 26 to 1,000 live births in 2021 in 2021.
The sex ratio of birth improved from 899 in 2014 to 913 in 2021. The total fertility rate remained consistent at 2.0 in 2021, a significant improvement from 2.3 in 2014.
