The state government, which will drop below 10% in several districts of Kalyana Karnataka, will start on 1 June.
On Saturday he spoke to the media in the Aiwan-E-Shahi pension in Kalaburagagi and Mr. Khandre stressed that districts such as Kalaburagi (5%), Ballari (7%), Yadgir and Raichur (every 3%) have low forest coverage.
“As a first step towards ecological renewal, we planned to plant one lakh along the roads in these four districts from 1 June. To ensure that these seedlings will be maintained, each will be geo-degraded and documented. High quality seedlings that are well suitable for our soil will be obtained from Rajahmundra in neighboring state,” he said.
“Information, such as how many planted tree grows in a given year and its current situation will be recorded on the website of the department. The government has developed a long-term plan to increase the forest cover in the Kalyana Karnataka area of 10-20% over the next 10-15 years,” he said.
The overall green initiative Mr. Khandre said that after the Congress Government came to the Congress Government, approximately 8.5 crore seedlings were planted.
“Officials say that approximately 80% -90% of these seedlings will survive and grow. However, after an independent third-party review, it was found that about 70% of the seedlings actually survive,” he said.
He said “If the Council can allocate 100 crore to increase the green coverage in the Kalyan Karnatak area, it will be very beneficial.”
