Foreign Minister Vikram Misri on Friday (May 9, 2025) condemned Pakistan for leading the misinformation campaign and claimed that India “Permanent Unity” is an important challenge for Pakistan. Mr. Misri also accused Pakistani forces of targeting to Gurdward in India and on his own territory in an effort to sow municipal disagreement in India. He announced that due to the current tense situation along the international border (IB), the Cartarpur corridor – connecting Indian pilgrims with the second most important Sikh shrine in Pakistan – was suspended.

“As we saw in the Pahalgam attack, Pakistan again tries to desperately pass on the community shade with the intention of creating disagreement. We are not surprised again. Indian perennial unity is a challenge for Pakistan,” Mr Misri said. Note in response to Pakistan’s report that the Indian drone was shot down in the district of Nankan SaHib, which hosts Gurudware Janam Asthan in the district capital of Nankan Sahib in Pakistan.

Cartarpur Sahib Gurdwara is honored as a place of last rest by the founder of Sikhism Guru Nanak, which is known to have spent the last 18 years of his life in this place. Corridor Kartarpur connects Dera Baba nanak in India with Gurdware Sri Cartarpur SaHib. It was launched by former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan 9. November 2019. Mr. Misri said that Pakistan’s attempts to focus on gourdwars were “just to fool and mislead” the world.
“We have seen the Pakistani side targeting and shelling places of worship with a specific design. These include gurdwarda, monasteries (in Poonch) and temples. This is new low, even for Pakistan,” Foreign Minister said.
Consultations continue
India continued consultations with its key partners with the Minister of Outside S. Jaishankar, who exchanges notes with his counterparts from global capitals. He spoke to American Minister Marco Rubio on Thursday. “The Minister deeply appreciated the US commitment to cooperate with India in the fight against terrorism. He also emphasized the targeted measures that India took in connection with Sindoor operation.
He said Mr. Jaishankar discussed the prevailing situation with British Foreign Minister David Lammy and his Norwegian counterpart Espen Barth Eide on Friday. Officials argued here that despite several obligations involved in the parties, including the US, Saudi Arabia and Iran, India did not seek mediation through them, as India continues to maintain direct diplomatic contact with Pakistan.
