The Youth League is taking SIR protests to the streets all over Malappuram

The Muslim Youth League (MYL) has taken to the streets to protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and is holding marches at several places in Malappuram from Friday (September 25, 2026).

The protests centered on the demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. MYL accused Mr. Kumar of weakening the election process through SIR.

In Kottakkal, the protest took the form of a grand march from Chenkuvetta to the Kottakkal bus stand. Thousands of workers joined the rally led by MYL state committee member KM Khaleel.

Mr Khaleel said the organization would continue to raise its voice against what it sees as a threat to the electoral system. He also linked the protest to other issues of public concern, including E20 petrol and online payment fees.

“What we are seeing is not just a debate about the electoral roll. It is about people’s right to participate in democracy,” Mr Khaleel said. He added that the MYL would continue its protests until the concerns over the revision of electoral rolls were resolved.

Indian Union Muslim League District Secretary KM Gafoor inaugurated the rally. Constituency Secretary CP Nisar welcomed the gathering. The Malappuram Assembly Constituency Committee of the MYL also staged a protest against Gyanesh Kumar.

The welfare party staged separate protests in Malappuram, also demanding the resignation of the CEC and claiming that the SIR had undermined the electoral system.

Muslim League Constituency President Basheer Randathani, Secretary Salam Valanchery, Treasurer Siddique Parappur, Kottakkal Municipal Chairman KK Nasser and Panchayat Kuttippuram Block President A. Ajayan addressed the rally in Kottakkal.
