Odisha Police crack a theft case and secure a conviction in just 17 days

Police in Urín cracked a mobile phone theft case and secured a conviction within 17 days of reporting the matter, a senior officer said on Saturday (Sep 26, 2026).

The theft of four mobile phones and two handsets was registered at the Rengali police station on September 9 and the accused Sanatan Kishan (26) was arrested.

After questioning him, two phones and an earpiece were found in his house, said investigating officer Samarendra Nayak.

The investigation was quickly concluded; an indictment was filed on September 19 and charges were filed on September 21.

The court of Civil Judge Jaya Ray in Lakhanpur on September 25 sentenced the convict to six months’ simple imprisonment with a fine of Rs 5,000.

“The entire process, from the registration of the FIR on September 9 to the conviction on September 25, was completed in just 17 days. This reflects the police’s commitment to speedy investigation, subsequent professional prosecution and timely justice to the victims,” ​​Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police Gundala Reddy Raghavendra said.
