Five youths assault girl in Bihar’s Kishanganj; SIT arrests one

Bihar witnessed another molestation case in Kishanganj district where a video of youths assaulting a young girl and his friend went viral on social media.

This is the fifth case in a week after cases of harassment and molestation of minor girls were reported from Jamui and Banka while two cases were found in Samastipur district.

The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Dighalbank Police Station area. In the video, a group of youths were seen stopping a young man and woman riding a motorcycle and misbehaving with them.

The footage shows how the youths forcibly grabbed the woman’s hand and assaulted her. One of the accused was heard asking the girl that since she was a Muslim, what was she doing with a Hindu boy.

The Kishanganj police received the video late in the night of 24 September 2026, after which a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed and raids were conducted to arrest the accused.

Santosh Kumar, Superintendent of Police (SP), Kishanganj, personally inspected the spot where the incident took place with a police team and issued instructions to expedite action against those responsible for the act. According to police, the video is 4-5 months old and likely happened in May 2026.

Kishanganj police also said that on checking the video, it was found that a group of 8-9 youths had surrounded the young woman and 4-5 of them were shouting at her and physically assaulting her. The incident took place near Tulsiya Halt railway station.

“Five accused, namely Afsar alias Tajemul, Zubair Khan, Mizan alias Salman, Kamil and Shahzad from nearby villages have been identified on the basis of video footage during investigation,” Kishanganj police said on Friday (September 25, 2026).

Of the five main accused, Shahzad was arrested by the SIT and the other four accused involved in the attack fled to other states: Afsar in Gujarat, Zubair Khan in Haryana, Mizan in Karnataka and Kamil in Punjab. The police are examining the details of the other accused and raids are underway to arrest them.

“The victim was identified and during interrogation she said that she had gone to the railway station to meet a male friend. Some youths from nearby villages spotted her and started harassing and assaulting her, asking how she could have a Hindu boyfriend. Further investigation revealed that the Mukhiya (village head) had earlier convened a village-level panchayat,” he said, adding that the dispute at the local level had been resolved.

However, the police have registered a case based on the victim’s statement and the SIT headed by Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO)-02, Kishanganje is taking further action. The SIT has been asked to identify and arrest all persons involved in the case.

The opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has been constantly attacking the state government over the viral videos and harassment case in Bihar, saying law and order is on its deathbed.
