Cricketer Suryakumar Yadav has upgraded his first ever car, a yellow Toyota Fortuner Type 2, which holds a special sentimental value for the Indian cricketer. Known for his stylish batting and penchant for luxury and performance cars, Suryakumar had the SUV extensively restored and modified in Mumbai at Autorounders workshop.
Netizens congratulated him and called his transformation “top notch”.
A video released by the workshop shows the cricketer arriving in a Mercedes-Benz V-Class to collect his newly converted Fortuner. The cricketer seemed genuinely surprised by the transformation of his 2011 Toyota Fortuner, calling the upgraded SUV a “beast” and suggesting that he might work with the workshop on similar projects in the future.
According to the video, Suryakumar’s Fortuner was left parked in his garage for a long time and developed several problems, including body corrosion and mechanical issues. After coming across Autorounders on social media and liking the workshop’s custom Spartan body kit for the Fortuner, he approached him to discuss a complete restoration and makeover of the SUV.
The team first took the SUV apart and inspected it for rust, replaced corroded metal panels and repaired mechanical issues. After the pitting and structural work was completed, they chemically removed the original paint to prepare the Fortuner for a new surface.
Custom body kit and new paint
Autorounders first tested its own Spartan body kit, giving the Fortuner a more muscular look. The setup includes a custom-made fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) front bumper, along with wider fender flares, custom rear bumpers, upgraded headlights, a large hood scoop, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The exterior mirrors have also been wrapped in carbon fiber to give it a sportier touch.
For the new exterior finish, the workshop chose Petra Copper from the Land Rover Defender color palette. Bumpers, doors, fenders and other panels were painted individually inside the driver’s cab to achieve a final look reminiscent of the factory paint. Impressed with the result, Suryakumar said the shade gave the Fortuner a distinctive look and exceeded his expectations.
The Fortuner gets a premium cabin treatment
The interior has also been extensively revised, the upholstery covered in Nappa leather in the color of Raspberry. The SUV now gets an aftermarket touchscreen infotainment system along with customized door panels, interior handles and a redesigned steering wheel.
The steering wheel is from the newer generation Fortuner, giving the cabin a beefier and more modern look than the original setup.
Suryakumar’s garage
The facelifted Fortuner now sits alongside several top vehicles in Suryakumar Yadav’s collection, including the Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, Porsche 911 Turbo and a customized Nissan Jong. While his newer cars showcase modern luxury, the restoration of the Fortuner has a more personal meaning as it was his first major car purchase. The SUV has now received a modern facelift with updated styling and performance-focused tweaks.
