Nandyal aims for 100% literacy by 2027, new action plan in the works
District Collector Rajakumari Ganiya has directed officials to formulate an action plan to transform Nandyal into a 100% literate district by 2027.
In the meeting, the Collector urged the officials to work in coordination to provide education to every illiterate individual. She said that 26,000 individuals have already become literate through the ‘ULLAS-1’ programme. However, a survey conducted in 2022 revealed that over 325,000 illiterate individuals still live in the district. An action plan is currently underway targeting more than 100,000 people a year with the goal of making all of these individuals literate within three years.
Almost one million of them have already achieved literacy, the collector said. It has asked officials to ensure that at least 50 percent of the remaining individuals, around 1.12 million people, are literate at the current stage.
