The DVAC is searching premises associated with DMK’s Tiruvannamalai MP CN Annadurai

Tiruvannamalai MP CN Annadurai (DMK) on Friday (September 25, 2026) toured various premises associated with him.

DVAC sources said the search began around 7.30am at Mr Annadurai’s residence. Teams from Vellore and Tiruvannamalai, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DVAC) Arul, conducted searches. A two-time MP from the constituency, Mr. Annadurai was present during the searches at his house.

It was learned that inspections were also carried out at APU construction sites, connected to the MP, which handled more than 50 road works and other jobs of the highways department.

The searches came as a result of complaints filed by Arappor Iyakkam, an anti-corruption NGO, with the DVAC at its headquarters in Chennai on 13 August. It is alleged that large-scale sand from the bottom of a dried-up lake in Malappambadi village near Tiruvannamalai town has been illegally mined, allegedly on the instructions and directives of the DMK Velu public meetings of the PWDMK last year.

The complaint stated that a large amount of sand was quarried to allegedly level the open land, which covers 124.56 acres, to host the DMK conference. The then Chief Minister and DMK President MK Stalin and his son and former Deputy Chief Minister Udayanidhi Stalin attended the conference. The theft of sand allegedly resulted in a loss of ₹8 crore to the exchequer, the complainant claimed.

In June this year, the DVAC conducted searches at educational institutions associated with Mr. Velu in Kilnachipattu village near Tiruvannamalai town on the Vellore-Thoothukudi High Road. In March 2023, similar searches were conducted at several premises associated with Mr. Velu in Tiruvannamalai by the Income Tax Department.

After completing the searches at around 2.30 pm, Mr. Annadurai told reporters in Tiruvannamalai that he had answered DVAC’s questions related to the illegal extraction of sand from a dry lake near Tiruvannamalai town for the DMK Youth Wing conference to be held in December 2025. “It was a fully fake case involving an official of a DVAC construction company. some files after the searches,” he claimed.

He termed the search as an attempt to prevent DMK functionaries and cadres from targeting voter turnout in Madurantakam and Dharapuram assembly constituencies.
