Operation Sheruwali: Fire attack launched on suspected hideouts in J&K’s Rajouri

Security forces on Tuesday (May 26, 2026) launched a fire attack on specific hideouts and deployed additional troops as an operation to track down terrorists believed to be hiding in the dense forests of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district entered its fourth day, officials said. The raid was launched on suspected hideouts in the Dorimal-Gambhir Moghla belt of Manjakote area during intensified efforts to flush out the terrorists, they said.

Officials said plumes of smoke were seen rising from forested areas after the attack, indicating that targeted locations were hit during the operation.

Security forces are also monitoring bloodstains believed to have been left behind by fleeing terrorists after a hideout was destroyed in an attack carried out on Monday (May 25, 2026).

Joint teams of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and paramilitary forces are carrying out extensive searches in the surrounding areas with the support of helicopters, drones and sniffer dogs. The cordon around the operational zone was further strengthened with the deployment of additional troops, officials said.

Additional reinforcements have rushed to Dori Maal forests in Gambhir Moghla area, where an anti-terrorist operation is underway. Additional operational teams have also been deployed to widen the search area and intensify efforts to track and eliminate the terrorists, they added.

On Saturday (May 23, 2026), there was an encounter between terrorists and security forces in the Dorimal-Gambhir Moghla belt after a joint team launched Operation Sheruwali based on intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the Singhpora-Chatroo area.

A joint team of Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a massive cordon and search operation in the area on Saturday (May 23, 2026) based on specific information about the movement of suspected terrorists.

The operation led to a brief gunfight after contact was made with the terrorists, prompting security forces to continue a large-scale search in rugged and heavily forested terrain.

According to preliminary reports, two to three terrorists, including the commander, are believed to be hiding in the area. The Army’s White Knight Corps said contact was made with the terrorists on Saturday (May 23, 2026) in the general area of ​​Gambhir Moghla during a joint intelligence-based operation conducted with the police and CRPF.
