33.15 lakh assistance extended to family of APCOS worker electrocuted in Mangalagiri-Tadepalli

The Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration and City Development Department has extended a financial assistance of ₹ 33.15 lakh to the family of Vundi Anil Kumar, an APCOS welder who was electrocuted while on duty in Mangalagiri-Tadepalli Municipal Corporation limits.

Chief Secretary S. Suresh Kumar on Friday handed over a check for ₹ 28 crore to the bereaved family for insurance benefits. The assistance included ₹20 crore under the accident insurance scheme and ₹8 crore to support education for two children of the deceased employee.

The city corporation had earlier provided ₹ 5 lakh as ex gratia and ₹ 15,000 towards funeral expenses, making the total assistance ₹ 33.15 lakh.

Mr. Anil Kumar, 51, was working as an APCOS welder since April 2010 and was posted at Nulakapeta in Tadepalli. On June 12, 2026, he was electrocuted and died. He is survived by his wife, daughter and son.

Mr. Suresh Kumar said the case highlighted the need for a strong social security framework for outsourcing and front-line municipal workers.

About 35,000 municipal employees across urban local bodies in the state have so far been enrolled in the salary-linked insurance protection scheme. The eight workers who died under various circumstances have received insurance benefits totaling about ₹80 crore, he said.

The department also promotes health and injury protection among municipal workers and has encouraged city commissioners to increase awareness of available benefits and application procedures.
