Veeramani POCSO case: Two senior IPS officers removed from posts

Two senior IPS officers who were heading the Chennai Police Commissionerate when the complaint first surfaced accusing the owner of Gem Granites Veeramani of predatory sexual behavior targeting minor girls were relieved of their posts on Thursday (September 24, 2026).

Additional Principal Secretary (Home) K. Manivasan said in the order that A. Arun, ADGP, Tamil Nadu Police Academy and N. Kannan, Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore, have been transferred from their posts with immediate effect and placed on compulsory waiting period.

While the order did not state the reasons for their transfer, the development came in the backdrop of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee’s SC department head Ranjan Kumar revealing that he had already filed a crime complaint against Mr. Kannan in November 2024 when he was serving as Additional Commissioner of Police, Chennai. Mr. Kumar said the officer told him that he would look into the complaint after consulting the then Commissioner of Police, Mr. Arun.

‘Anonymous Letter’

However, it was only last year that the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) in the case, claiming to have received an anonymous letter and pen (allegedly containing evidence of sexual abuse) through an NGO representative.

As per the Home Ministry order, DGP (Training) Rajeev Kumar will hold the additional charge of Police Academy and RV Ramya Bharati, IGP, West Zone, will hold the additional charge of Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore.
