The police officer was suspended for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol

A sub-inspector at Azheekal Coastal police station has been suspended for allegedly causing a road accident while driving under the influence of alcohol near Kannothumchal on the state highway on the night of September 21, 2026.

The officer, identified as Rajith, was allegedly driving the car when it hit three people, including a student who was returning home after a shift. All three sustained injuries.

The Kannur city police registered a case on the complaint of a student injured in the accident.
