Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani on Thursday announced an investment of more than ₹4,000 crore for the proposed Adani Arogya Mandir project in West Bengal, a healthcare initiative expected to generate over 10,000 jobs.
Adani announced this at the groundbreaking ceremony for the project in New Town. He also said that Adani Group intends to invest more than ₹1 lakh crore in West Bengal by 2035, with investments spanning multiple sectors such as ports, logistics, power generation, transmission and distribution, roads, bridges, ropeways, green cement and hyperscale data centers.
Adani Arogya Mandir is planned as a non-profit healthcare facility with a capacity of 2,000 beds. Half of the beds will reportedly be allocated to economically weaker patients covered by state or central government health insurance schemes. The project will also include a medical faculty and facilities for advanced healthcare and research, reports ANI.
Accompanied by his wife Priti Adani and son Karan Adani, Adani conducted a ‘bhumi pujan’ and formally laid the foundation stone of the proposed project.
Describing the project as part of Adani Group’s wider investment plans for the state, Adani noted, “While healthcare can transform the lives of individuals, infrastructure can transform the opportunities available to millions of people, and this is where our larger commitment to Bengal begins.”
Adani Arogya Mandir will be developed on 51.75 acres as an academic medical center and integrated healthcare facility, the statement said, adding that the center is expected to treat more than 2 million inpatients and more than 20 million outpatients annually.
The project will create a research network covering areas such as genomics, precision medicine, biomedical informatics, artificial intelligence, clinical trials, molecular sciences and other areas of applied biomedical research, according to PTI. The facility will focus on turning scientific advances into better methods of diagnosing, treating and preventing disease, the statement said.
Adani Foundation has partnered with US-based Mayo Clinic Global Consulting and Singapore-based SingHealth to bring international expertise in clinical services, academic medicine, digital healthcare, quality standards, workforce development and innovation.
Adani outlines the economic potential of Bengal
Adani describes West Bengal as a key maritime and logistics link connecting north-east India with south-east Asia and said the state could develop into “one of the largest integrated industrial and economic platforms in Asia”.
Adani also announced that the group will support the restoration of the Writers’ Building, the redevelopment of Kumartuli Ghat and efforts to showcase Kolkata’s Durga Puja to a global audience.
Referring to Mundra Port in Gujarat as the Adani Group’s first ‘karmabhoomi’ (land of work), he expressed hope that West Bengal would become the conglomerate’s second ‘karmabhoomi’.
Adani said he visited the Kalighat temple earlier on Thursday to pray for the strength to lead, the determination to dream and the energy to turn those dreams into action.
