Government plans to list BIS-registered silver dealers ahead of festival season | Today’s news

There are currently around 25,000 silver retailers registered with BIS and the proposed government-backed list would provide consumers with an official link to identify registered dealers. India consumes around 7,000 tons of silver annually, with only about 800 tons produced domestically. Jewelery accounts for around 35% of India’s silver consumption, while silver accounts for another 15-20%.
