India Considers Wholesale-Retail Pharmacy Ratio to Curb Abuse

“While a data-driven assessment of the distribution network can help address regional gaps, prescribing a fixed mathematical ratio of retail and wholesale licenses alone may not address the underlying issues,” Dr Rajeev Sharma, VP, TATA 1MG, told Mint. “The priority should be to ensure that every wholesaler and distributor meets a strict minimum compliance threshold, including adherence to proper distribution procedures, appropriate temperature-controlled storage, robust traceability systems and quality-assured tracking and handling, so that no substandard drug enters circulation.”
