BJP announces new state mandate; Anil Baluni promoted as Party Communications Coordinator

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Nabin on Wednesday (September 23, 2026) announced state assignments and new assignments for his team of national officers, with vice-president Ram Madhav giving the poll-linked Uttarakhand assignment as well as promotion to Lok Sabha MP for Press Anil Baluni as overall social and social media coordinator.

BJP general secretaries Vinod Tawde and Satish Poonia have already been given charge of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab respectively, states that also face polls early next year. Mr. Baluni’s promotion from head of media cell, now handed over to Ashish Usha Agrawal, to coordinator of all media and social media is significant and could signal an expected cabinet reshuffle.

Haryana and Chhattisgarh have been assigned to national general secretary Smriti Irani, while Mr. Madhav has also been given the charge of Tamil Nadu.

Senior BJP leader Vinay Sahasrabuddhe will be in charge of Delhi, while Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and Darshana Jardosh will be co-in-charges. Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh retains responsibility for Gujarat and Baijayant Jay Panda takes charge of Maharashtra, backed by co-owners Amit Malviya, Sadanand Shet Tanawade and Kamaljeet Sehrawat.

Harish Dwivedi is now in charge of Bihar and Karnataka, Odisha has been assigned to D. Purandeswari and Rajasthan has been assigned to Sanjay Bhatia. Sunil Bansal, who is already in charge of West Bengal, has also been given the charge of Telangana.

Mangal Pandey was given charge of Assam while Kanad Purkayastha took charge of Meghalaya and Anil Antony was given dual charge of Goa and Nagaland. Bhagwat Karad continues to oversee Mizoram. Raju Bista was appointed in-charge of Sikkim, George Kurian of Lakshadweep, Rajkumar Bhatia of Ladakh and K. Surendran of Puducherry.
