TTD enables darshan of 5.76 lakh devotees, net income of ₹ 28.94 crore ‘hundi’ during Brahmotsavam

Thousands of devotees throng the steps of the ‘Pushkarini’ tirumala to take a sacred dip during ‘Chakrasnanam’ on Wednesday.

The annual Brahmotsavams of Lord Venkateswara concluded on Wednesday with 5.76 lakh devotees having darshan of the presiding deity during the last eight days.

TTD has made extensive arrangements for the massive participation of pilgrims and the successful conduct of the festival.

Briefing the media, TTD Chairman BR Naidu along with Managing Director Muddada Ravichandra said that the Brahmotsavams held from September 15 to 22 were conducted smoothly due to the coordinated efforts of priests, officials and staff, district and police administration and personnel of allied departments.

The temple received an income of ₹28.94 crore in ‘hundi’ offerings during the festival, while 33 lakh laddus were sold. TTD distributed 21.84 lakh portions of ‘annaprasadam’ while 2.04 lakh devotees offered their hair as part of their vows.

Garuda Seva, the main attraction of the Brahmotsavams, drew intensive arrangements, with Mr. Naidu declaring that all devotees were facilitated with darshan. As many as 3,000 policemen and 2,400 security personnel were deployed during the festival, with another 1,000 policemen specially called in on the Garuda Seva day.

APSRTC operated 13,671 journeys from Tirupati to Tirumala carrying 3.92 lakh passengers and 13,584 journeys in the opposite direction carrying 4.97 lakh passengers. Preliminary traffic and parking measures were taken to regulate the heavy movement of vehicles.

The festival also witnessed a grand cultural display with 295 traditional art troupes, comprising nearly 7,871 artistes from 20 states and one Union Territory, performing before the vahana sevas. For the first time, foreign art groups took part in the celebration.

The city was decorated with elaborate floral arrangements employing around 60 tonnes of flowers, four lakh cut flowers and 80,000 seasonal flowers. 36 large digital screens have been installed to help devotees watch the vahana procession from various locations.

The scale of the measures was particularly evident on Garuda Seva day when 3,500 sanitation workers were deployed to keep the hill shrine clean amid massive crowds. Nearly 173 tonnes of wet and dry waste generated during the day was collected, segregated and transported to the landfill, reflecting TTD’s focus on sanitation along with crowd management during the festival.

Mr. Naidu also profusely thanked the print and electronic media for giving massive coverage to the festival.
