UP BJP MLA seen riding motorcycle without helmet, asks police to impose fine

After a video showing him riding a motorcycle without a helmet went viral, BJP MLA from Deoria, Shalabh Mani Tripathi, approached the police to fine him.

The MLA said that on Sunday (May 17, 2026) evening, while he was having tea at his residence, a party worker urged him to “introduce” his new motorcycle by taking it for a ride.

“I could not refuse his request and rode my bike without a helmet – which is, strictly speaking, a violation of the rules,” Mr. Tripathi said.

The MLA later wrote a letter to the police administration requesting that appropriate action be taken and he be fined.

He also appealed to the public to obey traffic rules and always wear helmets.
