The probe sought alleged secrecy regarding the assembly’s visit to Aralam Farm

President of the Adivasi Dalit Munnetta Samithi Sreeraman Koyyon alleged that the District Tribal Mission authorities had deliberately kept secret the visit of the Kerala Legislative Assembly’s Assurance Committee on Aralam farm restoration and assessment of issues related to the construction of an elephant-proof wall.

Mr Koyon claimed the secrecy was intended to block discussion of corruption in tribal rehabilitation over the past decade and the deaths of indigenous people in wild elephant attacks, which he blamed on administrative lapses.

He said the officer facing charges and still accused as the Tribal Rehabilitation Development Mission (TRDM) site manager and senior officials of Aralam Farming Corporation were behind the move. He said the latter helped private companies and individuals acquire tribal land in the Aralam farm on lease and use the lease agreements to secure loans from scheduled banks.

Mr. Koyon alleged that MLAs from both the ruling and opposition fronts were trying to portray the committee’s visit as a private visit, terming it a betrayal of the tribal community. In a complaint submitted to the Speaker of the Assembly, he sought action against officials who allegedly withheld information about the committee’s visit and demanded an inquiry into the circumstances of the visit.
