Asian Games, September 23 programme: Mirabai, Manu headline India's medal hopes

Another busy day awaits the Indian contingent at the 2026 Asian Games, with several of the country’s biggest names in action in Aichi-Nagoya on Wednesday, September 23. India will look to add to its medal tally on Day 4, with athletes competing in 102 events across 17 sports.

Two-time Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker will be one of the main attractions on Wednesday. She will compete in the women’s 10m air pistol qualification along with Suruchi Inder Singh and Esha Singh. The trio will also appear in the team competition, while Bhaker, Suruchi and Esha are scheduled to battle it out in the individual finals if they qualify.

Weightlifting will also be in the spotlight as Mirabai Chanu begins her campaign in the women’s 49kg category. The Olympic medalist will aim to win her first medal from the Asian Games. Gyaneshwari Yadav will feature later in the women’s 53kg event.

Indian Men’s Badminton Team who secured a medal after defeating Japan in the quarter-finals, they will face China in the semi-finals. Lakshya Sen, Ayush Shetty, HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth, Tharun Mannepalli and the doubles pair of Satwik and Chirag are among those named in the Indian squad. The team will be looking to secure a spot in the gold medal game.

Wushu star Roshina Devi will also be in action in the 60kg Sanda semi-final. She will face the Indonesian Thania Kusumaningtyas for a place in the final.

The Indian women’s hockey team will look to maintain their winning start when they take on Thailand in a Group B match. India have won their opening two matches and will be looking for another win.

Fencing and rowing will also keep the Indian contingent busy throughout the day. Naorem Mina Devi and Ashitha Stalinraj will compete in women’s foil, while Karan Singh and Gisho Nidhi KP will feature in men’s sabre. Several Indian rowers will also be in action across heats in various events.

With medal events in shooting and weightlifting and key matches in badminton, hockey and wushu, Wednesday promises to be another busy day for India at the Asian Games.
