According to government data, the number of dengue cases in Tamil Nadu has been declining for the third year in a row

The number of dengue cases in Tamil Nadu has been on the decline for the third consecutive year, according to data from the Department of Health and Family Welfare. The state recorded 17,049 cases by September 19, 2026, compared to 25,585 cases in 2025, 46,971 in 2024 and 56,863 in 2023.

The number of reported dengue cases decreased by 17% between 2023 and 2024, followed by a 46% decrease in 2025. However, the 2026 data only covers the period up to September 19 and cannot be compared with full-year data from previous years.

The figures suggest a steady decline in reported dengue cases, although figures for 2026 may change in the remaining months.

The state reported nine dengue-related deaths through September 19, 2026, compared to 12 in 2025, 13 in 2024 and 12 in 2023.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection that can cause high fever, body aches and, in some cases, serious illness. Warning signs such as persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding and extreme weakness require immediate medical attention.

The year-over-year decline in reported cases and deaths provides an overview of the state’s dengue burden, but the data does not determine the reasons for the decline.
