Plant scientist and organic farmer AN Nagaraj passed away in Shivamogga

AN Nagaraj, a plant scientist, practitioner and promoter of organic farming, died on Monday at a private hospital here after a brief illness. He was 97. He is survived by three children.

Son of noted Kannada writer and thinker AN Murthyrao, Dr. Nagaraj, went abroad for higher studies in biology and received his doctorate in the field in the United States.

He worked for several years as a scientist in the US and later at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in the Philippines before returning to India.

For more than four decades, he has practiced organic farming and promoted it across the state. In later years he settled at Bheemanakatte near Tirthahalli. His autobiography Anandada Hudukatadalli (In Search of Happiness) was published in 2023 when he was 95 years old.
