(AP photo) NEW DELHI: India’s wait for a gold medal continued on Day 2 of the 2026 Asian Games, but four more podium finishes took the country’s tally to six as the Aichi-Nagoya shooting led again. India added three medals from the shooting range and a historic bronze in mixed martial arts to move to four silver and two bronze medals overall.India ended the day in 12th place in the medal standings, while China continued to set the pace at the top of the table. Japan and South Korea remained in the leading pack as an early medal race began to take shape.

Shooting brings three more medals

The range again proved to be the most productive place in India. Himanshu Dhillon and Rudrankksh Patil won silver and bronze in the men’s 10m air rifle individual event, while the duo combined with Parth Man won the team silver.Dhillon held his nerve to finish second behind China’s Olympic champion Sheng Lihao, who successfully defended his Asian Games title with 254.2 points. Patil took bronze with 230.9. Suchika made MMA history amid grief

India’s fourth medal of the day went to Suchika Tariyal, who created history by becoming India’s first Asian Games medalist in mixed martial arts. But the bronze came with a painful twist.Suchik’s semi-final against Singapore’s Hui Hoon Teo ended in a draw, but the Indian was about 700 grams heavier at the morning weigh-in. According to competition rules, the lighter athlete advances if the match is tied, thus sending Teo to the finals and Suchika taking bronze.

China has tightened its grip on the medal table

Chinese dominance was reflected in several places. In swimming, 13-year-old Yu Zidi won her second gold medal in as many days, setting an Asian Games record in the women’s 200m individual medley.China also won gold in the 100m breaststroke through Dong Zhihao, while Qin Haiyang won bronze. The results added to China’s growing haul of 38 medals, including 23 gold, as the continental power continued to build a sizeable lead over Japan (32 medals) and South Korea (23 medals).India’s six-medal tally is a solid start, but the absence of gold remains the most notable feature of the early finishes. With several medal events still to come, the focus now shifts to whether India can turn their strong run of silver finishes into gold as the Games progress.
