Two injured when a wild gaur hit a scooter in Kasaragod, Kerala

A wild gaur crossing the road reportedly rammed into a scooter at Manjakal near Bovikanam in Kasaragod, Kerala on Monday (September 21, 2026), seriously injuring two people.

The injured are CM Jithina, 22, a Bachelor of Nursing student from Thankethadukka in Karivedagam and P. Amalraj, 24, from Alathumkadav. Amalraj was riding a scooter at the time of the incident.

Both were thrown onto the road after their scooter allegedly collided with the animal. Jithina, who suffered chest injuries, was initially admitted to a hospital in Kasaragod. She was later shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru as her injuries were serious.

Amalraj, who also sustained serious injuries, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Cherkala.

Residents said that the presence of wild gaur has been frequent in the Manjakkal area for the past two years. However, no cases of wild gaur attacks on humans have been reported.

They demanded urgent measures including construction of security fencing to control the movement of wild gaurs in the area.
