Agartala Government Medical College adds 100 MBBS seats

Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) has increased MBBS seats from 150 to 250 for the academic session 2026-2027.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Monday (September 21, 2026) that the expansion is expected to strengthen the state’s medical education framework and healthcare delivery systems and offer more opportunities for aspiring medical students.

In a statement Dr. Saha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister JP Nadda for their continued support in expanding medical education and health infrastructure in the region. He said with this increase, AGMC is at par with India’s top medical colleges like Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi and BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad.

These schools have been given a maximum capacity of 250 MBBS seats as approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

“The expansion of medical education is to contribute to a healthier and more prosperous future for Tripura,” the chief minister said, declaring that the government is committed to strengthening the state’s health services and educational environment.

AGMC is the only government medical college in Tripura apart from a society run medical college and a private medical college. The present state government has also established a dental college in Agartala.

The management of Bandhan Bank recently laid the foundation stone for a private medical college at Ambassa in Dhalai district of North Tripura.
