KTR malfunctions of governments. for denying Jurala ayacut water

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao alleged that the Congress government in Telangana directly cheated farmers in the Krishna basin by denying water for irrigation under a project built with assured waters, while Andhra Pradesh withdraws water for projects based on surplus water outside the basin.

Farmers under the Jurala Right and Left Canals project in the combined Mahabubnagar district have been pushed into destitution by denying available water to their standing crops at key stages, despite their protests at the project site and elsewhere in the district, Mr. Rama Rao said at a press conference here on Monday.

Mr. Rama Rao said that out of 248 tmc ft of inflows to Krishna basin projects this year, Telangana has utilized only 28 tmc ft of water. The government would be responsible even if one acre of permanent crop dries up in Jurala ayacut and get 10 tmc feet of water from Karnataka by talking to the Congress government there if necessary.

He reiterated that the government has all powers to take action against them (BRS leaders) if they have acquired/held properties illegally and said he was ready for a judicial inquiry into the assets of the family members of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Meanwhile, BRS senior leader T. Harish Rao questioned the Congress government’s failure to provide Krishna water to ayacut under Telangana basin projects when AP took it to Kuppam, located 738 km from Srisailam reservoir. He accused the government of gross negligence for not pumping enough water for the Kalwakurthy, Bhima, Nettempadu and Koilsagar projects and switching on the engines of the Palamuru-Rangareddy project to fill the reservoirs whenever possible during the Krishna floods.
