Tamil Nadu CM Vijay reviews Northeast Monsoon preparedness, dengue prevention measures

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Monday (September 21, 2026) held a meeting at the Secretariat to review preparations for the Northeast Monsoon and dengue prevention in the state.

A state government press release said the chief minister directed officials to prepare a list of areas at risk of sea water intrusion and coastal erosion during the monsoon and ensure that weather and storm warnings reach fishermen and rehabilitation centres.

He said that schools and community halls should be prepared to accommodate people and that safe drinking water, food and medical facilities should be available at the centres.

Besides arranging for satellite messaging, Mr. Vijay directed officials to use drones to survey roads, storm water drains and bridges and carry out necessary maintenance work.

Revenue Minister KA Sengottaiyan presented the report of an expert advisory committee formed to monitor and assess the potential impact of a possible strong El Niño phenomenon.

The Chief Minister also emphasized the need to intensify anti-mosquito measures, including the control of Aedes mosquitoes and their larvae in areas reporting dengue cases, and ensuring timely treatment of patients.
