Goods transporter driver falls asleep at the wheel, dies after hitting truck on ORR

A truck driver died and another person was injured after the vehicle reportedly hit a truck on the outer ring road at Shamirpet on Monday (May 25).

According to the police, the incident took place when a family from Uppal was transporting household goods to Beeramguda using a goods carrier booked through the NoBroker website.

The complainant told the police that his sister Sunitha (34) had hired the vehicle to transport household goods. Around 6:30 a.m., a goods carrier with registration number AP 28 V 5114 arrived at their residence together with workers to load the goods.

Police said the vehicle left Uppal around 9:30 am and entered the ORR at Ghatkesar. The complainant was traveling in the cab along with the driver identified as Narati Ravi and another laborer while the three laborers were sitting in the rear of the vehicle.

At around 11:00 am, after crossing Shamirpet, the complainant allegedly noticed a vehicle coming down on the left side of the road and realized that the driver had fallen asleep while driving. Before he could raise the alarm, the freight forwarder allegedly crashed into a lorry with registration number TS 07 UB 5557.

The impact completely crushed the front of the cabin, trapping three people inside. Narati Ravi died on the spot while the appellant sustained minor injuries and a fractured leg. He was later taken to hospital for treatment.

Shamirpet police registered a case and started investigation.
