Five persons held in Ranipet on charges of murder

Police in Thimiri near Arcot town in Ranipet have arrested five persons for killing a van driver in a previous enmity.

Police said the arrested persons were identified as Rahim Khan (33), Kishore (23), Satish Kumar (24), Suriya (21) and Dinesh (23). They are residents of Vellore city.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim Mohammed Imran (36) and the key suspect Rahim Khan are related and have been living in Vellore city for many years. Imran worked as a van driver for a private school near Arcot town in Ranipet.

Police said Imran and Rahim had a dispute over parking their vehicles on a relative’s open plot in the area. They also had an argument recently and exchanged blows.

Along with his friends, Rahim stopped Imran, who was on his way home, near Arcot town in Ranipet. The gang allegedly hit Imran with wooden logs. Imran collapsed on impact.

Police said passers-by and motorists admitted him to the Taluk Government Hospital in Arcot before he was shifted to a private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a few days ago. A case has been registered.

Police said special teams analyzed CCTV footage of the route and found Rahim and his gang at the crime scene. After being questioned by the police, the gang confessed to the crime. They were later lodged in the Vellore Central Jail. A probe is underway.
