The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday (May 25, 2026) conducted searches at three locations in J&K in a terror financing case linked to the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI).
The searches were conducted at three locations in Kashmir’s Srinagar and Shopian districts, an NIA spokesperson said. “The searches led to the recovery of several incriminating financial documents and electronic devices suspected to be related to the activities of JeI and its various trusts and associations in J&K,” the spokesperson added.
The NIA said it was probing the separatist and secessionist activities of the banned JeI. During the investigation, according to the NIA, it emerged that JeI was actively involved in raising funds for terror and fomenting terrorism in the Kashmir Valley and other parts of India.
“She was engaged in raising funds domestically and internationally in the name of donations for charitable and social activities such as health and education. She diverted these funds to violent and separatist activities and also directed them to banned terrorist organizations such as Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and others through well-organized networks of cadres,” the spokesperson said.
The JeI terror plot, according to the NIA, further involved radicalization and recruitment of susceptible Kashmiri youth as new members (“Rukuns”) to carry out secessionist activities.
“The NIA is continuing to investigate the case in an effort to end the secessionist activities of the unit and dismantle the terror network operating in J&K,” the spokesperson said.
