What makes blue watches special
The blue watch comes with a personal connection for Zuckerberg.
Mark Zuckerberg has red-green color blindness. It means they only see colors like yellow and blue. His color blindness directly influenced the visual identity of his corporate empire. Both Facebook and Meta have blue logos. They say it’s because of his visual problems, not just aesthetic ones.
Zuckerberg once revealed in a 2010 profile for The New Yorker that blue became Facebook’s primary palette because it’s the color he perceives most vividly. “Blue is the most saturated color for me; I see all blue,” he said.

Made by independent Swiss watchmaker De Bethune, the DB28xs Kind of Blue Tourbillon features thermal blue metal, one of its signature design elements, using thermal oxidation to create the color rather than surface coatings. The watch has a striking blue grade 5 titanium finish. Instead of using chemical varnishes, De Bethune subjects the dial, case, lugs and buckle components to a controlled heat treatment, creating a vibrant shade that can change between cobalt blue and dark blue in the light.
The DB28xs Kind of Blue Tourbillon is powered by the DB2009V7 hand-wound movement, which includes several technical features that claim to increase efficiency through a compact mechanism.
Its 63-piece tourbillon cage weighs just 0.18 grams. It is said to complete a rotation every 30 seconds, twice as fast as a traditional minute tourbillon. The movement operates at a frequency of 5 Hz and offers a five-day power reserve through two self-regulating mainsprings.
De Bethune encased its entire mechanism in a 38.7mm case with a thickness of 8mm. The watch is the first time the brand has incorporated a tourbillon into the slim case design of the DB28xs.
De Bethune co-founder and technical pioneer Denis Flageollet is said to have discovered the striking blue color, which was caused by a reaction while experimenting with titanium balance assemblies at temperatures above 700 degrees Celsius.
