A hyena has given birth to two cubs at the Thiruvananthapuram Zoo, officials said on Sunday (September 20, 2026).

Zookeepers spotted a mother Hyena nursing her cubs last week. The male Hyenas were moved to another enclosure and the mother and cubs were quarantined for close monitoring.

The zoo acquired three hyenas, two jackals, two mud crocodiles and two palm civets from the Shivamogga Zoological Park in Karnataka in 2024.

In return, the zoo authorities donated four nandas, six conures, two gharials, one hyena and two Indian porcupines to the Shivamogga Zoological Park.
