Delhi police chief, wife found dead in Narela; the children find the apartment locked from the inside

A senior Delhi police officer allegedly strangled his wife before ending her life at their second-floor flat in Narela on Saturday (September 19, 2026). The couple was found dead in the same room.

The deceased have been identified as Head Constable Monu (40), who was posted in North district, and his wife Meenu (35).

Outer North DCP Shobhit D. Saxena said the couple’s children returned from school to find the flat locked from inside. When no one answered after several knocks, they informed the police. The invitation to the PČR was received around 1:00 p.m

The police arrived at the scene and broke into the apartment with the assistance of firefighters. “Preliminary investigation shows that the head constable first strangled his wife and then hanged himself,” Saxena said.

No suicide note

No suicide note was found at the spot, the DCP said.

Monu had been with the Delhi Police for about 15 years and was posted at District Lines, North District.

DCP (North) Niharika Bhatt said a check of his service record and inquiries with his colleagues did not reveal any signs of distress or any indication that he might take such a step.

“We checked his record and he has a clear record. We also spoke to people who worked with him but there was no indication why he would take such a drastic step,” Ms Bhatt said.

A team from the Forensic Laboratory, crime team and senior police officers visited the spot. The bodies were sent to Raja Harish Chandra Hospital for postmortem.

A case has been registered and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and circumstances surrounding the death.
