TN Govt appoints TS Anbu as ADGP (Law & Order); Arun to head DVAC

The Tamil Nadu government on Monday (May 25, 2026) appointed additional director general of police TS Anbu as ADGP, law and order, replacing Maheshwar Dayal, who was transferred to the administrative wing of the police directorate as its head.
Mr. Anbu, a 2001-batch IPS officer who is currently on compulsory waiting, headed the Crime Branch-CID of the state police until recently. He will handle the sensitive post amid incidents of murders, sexual offenses and other serious crimes reported across the state.
Mr. Anbu is a recipient of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Police Medal for excellence in public service. He served in the Greater Chennai Police in various capacities such as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Joint Commissioner of Police and Additional Commissioner of Police.
He also served in southern districts as Superintendent of Police, Madurai and Inspector General of Police, South Zone.
Operation Puttur
Mr. Anbu was part of “Operation Puttur” in which Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh police arrested Panna Ismail, Bilal Malik and others for their allegiance to Al Ummah, a banned outfit.
During his tenure at CB-CID, he handled several sensational cases, including a series of cyber crimes involving digital arrests, a multi-crore iridium scam and serious allegations against an old and destitute home in Villuppuram.
Arun to head DVAC
The state government has also appointed former Chennai police commissioner A. Arun as director of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), Chennai.
After the Election Commission shifted him during the Model Code of Conduct before the assembly elections, he had to wait compulsorily.
Mr. Arun has previously served in various capacities such as ADGP, Law and Order and Commissioner of Police, Avadi.
