Jimmy Fallon was expecting an interview about the new season of The Tonight Show. Instead, Houston TV correspondent Lauren Kelly arrived with a piece of local history that visibly surprised the late night host.

Lauren Kelly, KPRC 2’s Houston Life correspondent, traveled to New York and interviewed Fallon at The Tonight Show studios at Rockefeller Center.re on Thursday. The interview covered the new season of the NBC show and Fallon’s previous visit to Houston, but it was Kelly’s old school yearbook that quickly became a standout moment.
Kelly brought with her a high school yearbook from 1995. Inside were photos of two classmates who would become big names in music: Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Rowland.
Fallon’s reaction was immediate. “Wait, what?” he said before asking Kelly, “Did you go to school with Beyoncé?”
Kelly confirmed that she had, explaining that both Beyoncé and Rowland were already singing at the time. She remembered the couple as “the most fantastic people, the most talented and natural people”.
The revelation gave the interview an unexpected Houston connection. Kelly wasn’t just talking about Beyoncé as a global superstar looking back on her early years; shared memories from when the singer was still a schoolgirl in Houston.
Jimmy’s reaction to the yearbook pictures
The yearbook quickly became the focus of conversation, and Fallon was eager to see the photos for himself. Kelly showed him pages with Beyoncé and Rowland, giving him insight into future stars before their careers took them around the world.
