
Minister of Higher Education Giova Chezhiaan on Wednesday inspected some of the places included in the narrower selection for the founding of the proposed Kalaignar University in Kumbakonami.
The new university, named after the former main Minister M. Karunanidhi, would start working from the upcoming academic year. The university will have jurisdiction over the districts of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Ariyalur with 18 universities that are currently under Bharathidas University in Tiruch.
Mr. Chezhiaan, accompanied by the district collector B. Priyanka Pankajam, inspected several buildings – Kalaiarangam on Sakkottai Road and hostels of government men – to the narrower selection of the temporary campus. He looked at the places identified for the permanent campus in Kallapuliyur on the Anaikkarai road and another place on the Valangaiman road. The site would be completed after consultation with the main Minister of MK Stalin, he said.
