In order to improve the accuracy of election roles, the Election Commission (EC) decided to electronically obtain data on the registration of death from the Secretary -General of India.
The data will be obtained by the voting authority in accordance with the rule 9 of the registration of the voter rules of 1960 and § 3 para. B) of the 1969 registration and death Act (as amended in 2023).
This ensures that election officials (EROS) receive timely information on registered deaths. This will also allow officers at the stand level to verify information via field visits without waiting for a formal request in Form 7, EC said on Thursday.
This step comes in the middle of the accusations of many opposition parties, including congress, manipulation with voters in the recent elections to the assembly.
Card ID for officers at the level of the booth
The Commission will also issue a photo identification card to the stall levels to ensure that citizens can recognize and communicate with them during verification of voters and registration.
Officers at the level of the stand are appointed EROS according to Section 13b (2) of the 1950s Act and are the first interface between voters and the ES in the fulfillment of election obligations.
Photo ID cards will be issued because it is important that the officers at the stand level are easy to identify to the public when performing visits in the house, the EC statement said.
Voters slide to adjust
The vote body also decided to modify the proposal of voters information to make it more friendly. The serial number and part number of the voter will now be displayed more prominent, with increased font size, which will make voters identify their electoral stations and easily find their names for election officials.
These three new initiatives, which are aimed at improving the accuracy of electoral roles and enlarge the voting process for citizens, are in line with measures assumed by the main election commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar during the main election officers’ conference (CEO), in the presence of election commissioners in March.
