Excise seizes suspected banned tobacco products from Perumbavoor

The Excise Department on Friday (September 18, 2026) claimed to have seized suspected banned tobacco products worth around ₹ 26 lakh from a crash in Perumbavoor town.

The suspected contraband in around 26,000 parcels was reportedly seized after they breached the gaps which were locked after an alert, a senior excise official said. The godown was rented by a native of Malappuram and a search was launched to trace him.

“The banned product is often sold at a price of up to ₹100 per packet,” the officer said.

The seizure was made during a joint raid by a team of Excise Commissioner, Excise Intelligence Team and Perumbavoor Excise Team.
